"If I Could Say It In Words There Would Be No Reason to Paint" ~Edward Hopper

To be honest, I'd never imagined becoming an artist, especially following a long, rewarding career as a physical education teacher and coach. But somehow, after retiring, I discovered a deep love for art and an urge to create it myself. It must have been immediately apparent - my husband happily added onto our outdoor patio and fashioned a studio for me. Painting and drawing became my new passion. I'm now following a path that brings me so much joy and fulfillment. It is truly a new world for me! And I can't imagine missing a day in that world's endless possibilities for my art.

There is so much to learn as a late-blooming, self-taught artist. Inspired by all subjects that somehow involve a connection to the world we live in - especially people and horses - I'm doing my best to make up for lost time. I hope to have many more years on this earth to nurture my craft.

I love creating texture in my paintings, so I at times incorporate different elements, including objects I've found - sand, gravel, twigs, for example - while exploring in nature. Although acrylic paint is my preferred medium, I sometimes also mix charcoal, pencil and watercolor into my works. I'm exhilarated by bringing to life a painting that makes the viewer want to touch and feel it!

Wanting to be near their family, Kathi and her husband Steve moved to Boise after 32 years in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They love living so close to their mothers, kids, and grandkids. The Holzers share their home with a pair of cattle dogs.
